Thankfully, I have never been able to escape the clutches of this
beautiful island. Born on the Isle of Wight, adopted as a baby, I spent
every summer on the beach. Long, hot, carefree days at 'Point', 'Silver
Sands', Lane End or Forelands. Moving to Seaview in my early twenties,
before settling in Cowes. So, having spent 39 years within a few minutes
of the Solent, it is not suprising that the majority of my paintings
reflect that.
I work in acrylic ink and paint - my patience does not allow me to work
in oils! I have recently found the joys of gold leaf and the use of
fabric allows a greater texture that I was unable to achieve before.
My current work explores the horizon. Sometimes this is distorted because of a wave or the rain, other
times through greater abstraction.
Although I visit the shores daily, I only ever paint from memory, as I
wish to encourage the senses rather just replicate a view, this allows
a looser feel.
I do hope that one of my paintings may spark some positive emotion or a
memory, or two.
